A Weekend at Fforest Fields Campsite

Fforest Fields campsite is set among the beautiful Welsh hills. The site is very well managed and maintained - one we had been planning to visit for a while. During to Covid19, booking and payment was made online. We had a socially distanced check in at reception on arrival, so that we could have a quick overview of where all the facilities were before we were asked to choose our pitch. The site is huge, with plenty of room for everyone. We asked to be out of the way, with lots of space for the girls to play, which is exactly what we got!

This site is renowned for its laid back feel, fantastic picturesque swimming/boating lake and unrestricted access to miles and miles of of walks directly from your pitch. There are lots of great walking opportunities straight from the site and we were provided with a very detailed map of the site including the surrounding area, with lots of suggestions of things to see. It was really helpful and really helped me make the most out of our visit.

The site is mostly level and set over several different fields. There is a very large 16-acre field and some smaller more intimate areas with only a few pitches. Most pitches are really wide so we've had no issues with social distancing. The site was relatively busy, but most campers seemed to pitch around the central facilities and closer to the boating lake. Fforest Fields has two glorious lakes. One for fishing and the other was perfect for paddle boarding, swimming and kayaking. Even dogs are welcome to swim. Under normal circumstances, kayaks can be borrowed, but unfortunately not this season.

There is a small honesty shop on site which has most of the basics - milk, bread and those things you may have forgotten. The cafe was very popular with guests, serving hot and cold drinks, pizzas on designated days and a wide variety of other foods / beverages. They even make milkshakes to order!

The amenity block is clean and well ventilated, with the main doors open. They are currently closing both the male and female areas twice daily, to ensure everything is clean enough and in line with current guidance.

The site is huge and one where you can definitely relax or adventure to your heart's desire! If you decided to leave site, the I would recommend visiting Elan Valley. The Elan Valley Reservoirs are a chain of man-made lakes, the magnitude of them and their stunning surroundings completely blew me away. The reservoirs, which were built by the Birmingham Corporation Water Department, over one hundred years ago, provided clean drinking water for Birmingham which was in desperate supply. You can walk around Elan Valley Estate but it's vast, so ideal for cyclists. We drove around due to the terrible weather conditions. We started our dam search with Craig Goch Dam pictured here.
