Review of Mad Hatters Campsite, Ely

For us, location is always important but especially at this time of year we LOVE having a campfire!

Mad Hatters Campsite, near Ely, Cambridgeshire is the first site we have ever visited where each pitch has its own fire pit available to use without an additional charge! You can even bring your own logs! It also happens to be a stunning, small, family-friendly site. While we were there, we indulged in views of Ely Cathedral, the surrounding fields and beautiful wild flowers. This site is perfectly placed for amazing sunsets and sunrises - a great spot for a chilled weekend.

Things we loved:
❤️ Views - set in the heart of the fenland, with stunning views of the surrounding fields and Ely Catherdral.
❤️ Surrounded by nature - this site actively encourages wildlife with its wild flower mazes and it eco friendly ethos. We loved the dark stary night skies long into the evening, huddled round the campfire.
❤️ Eco friendly. The site aims to recycle 90% of all rubbish created by campers. They recycle every from, crisp packets, tin cans, glass, clean plastic packaging and bottle tops. Even the products used to clean and sanitize the campsite facilities are purchased using the fill, clean, repeat method and the toilet roll is 100% recycled!
❤️ Campfire are allowed and actually encouraged. Fire pits available at no additional cost. Wood to be purchased from site.
❤️ Clean, modern facilities.

Other things to note:
➡️ There are some unique glamping options available too and the owners even hire out prepitched tents which I've only ever seen available on one other site before. This campsite welcomes all kinds of campers which is reflected in the relaxed atmosphere.
➡️ The site is relatively new and due to the flat landscape, it can feel exposed to the winds. The owners are working hard to plant and grow hundreds of trees, but this time for growth.
➡️ The site is located outside the city of Ely. You can walk or cycle there though. 🏕️
